Library

Our main library was established at the Lowestoft laboratory in the 1920s. It has become one of the world's most extensive collections of publications on fisheries, the marine environment and aquaculture science.

Our library facilities are primarily for the use of Cefas staff, but they are available for reference to associated academics, other research workers and bona fide enquirers by prior appointment. Charges are made for some services: a list of those is available on request.

Most simple enquiries can often be answered by referring to the publications listed in the database on this website. Enquiries are also accepted by email, telephone or letter. We can usually provide an answer or point you in the right direction. The range of subjects covered are noted below.

Enquiries relating to formulated national or international policies on the marine or aquatic environment should be directed to the Defra helpline: + 44 (0) 8459 335577. Or you may contact them by email at helpline@defra.gsi.gov.uk.
