Procurement
Providing goods and services to us
We have adopted the principle of combining common contract
areas with Government
Procurement Service (part of the Efficiency and
Reform Group within the Cabinet
Office); our parent department, Defra; and other government
departments.
When a procurement requirement arises we follow, where
appropriate, a hierarchy of supplier contracting:
- If a Government Procurement Service contract exists,
then we will take advantage of the economies of scale of
pan-governmental supply contracts.
- If no Government Procurement Service contract exists
but Defra have a national contract, then we would adopt this
national contract.
- Where no Government Procurement Service or Defra contract
exists, we would always look to combine our spending power with
other government departments, executive agencies or members of the
collaborative/networking groups of which we are members.
- Only when the above options have been exhausted, would we
conduct a major tendering exercise exclusively for Cefas.
