Amount Funded:
£35,000
Organisation:
MARIN
End Date:

The European Dredging Industry has improved significantly over the last 15 years in realising more energy efficient operations by up-scaling equipment and installing modern engines and energy management systems on board of dredging ships. However, it is committed to make a contribution to the reduction of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) by further improving on energy efficiency. The main aim of this project was to create awareness of the operational performance of dredger ships and the savings that can be made in gaseous emissions. Based on the conclusions of this report, more detailed investigations will be initiated to put the recommendations regarding emission savings into practice.

Project objectives:

  1. To evaluate potential operational savings for dredgers
  2. To evaluate saving potentials for the installation of energy saving devices on ships
  3. To propose further investigations to put theory into practice
