Cold, 'Wind Intense' and Brrrrrr!

Another day hiding from the wintery weather in Portland.
Never mind though, it has given us the opportunity to get
completely up-to-date with all of our data management and acoustic
data processing.
The stay in Portland has also given us the opportunity to have a
scientific staff change over. So, having waved goodbye to
Sophy, Linford and Filip we welcomed three more 'wise men' (well,
one wise man and two wise women really) onboard. Their first
task was to complete the vessel safety induction. This
familiarised them with the ship and also the various safety
equipment provided (including sea survival suits - see below).

During our time ashore we took the opportunity to pay a visit to
the Cefas Laboratory in Weymouth. We were also lucky enough
to be given a tour of the Weymouth Lifeboat by Tim (who works at
the lab) and is also a full-time voluntary Lifeboat crew
member.

Finally, with the weather due to improve by Saturday we left our
safe haven in Portland and made our way back to the survey area.
The pilot arrived at 8am and navigated us safely out of the harbour
(see below).

So, later today it'll be all hands on deck to carry on with the
survey. See the next blog to follow our progress!
