Animal health and food safety
Aquatic animals are susceptible to natural and man-made distress
such as disease and pollutants. These may affect the health of
individual organisms or populations and can also have effects on
the food chain, including man.
A sustainable aquatic environment and rational exploitation of
its natural resources requires understanding of the nature,
mechanism and impact of such stressors and their management. Our
science is focused on understanding and managing undesirable
impacts in fish and shellfish, and on man through the food
chain.
