Salmonids
The migratory salmonids
(Atlantic salmon and sea trout) are iconic species which are highly
valued both by the people who wish to fish for them and by the
general public, who value having them in our rivers and seeing them
on their epic upstream migrations. These species have complex
life-cycles, spending the early part of their lives in freshwater
and then migrating to sea and often travelling long distances to
reach their marine feedings areas. Both species require near
pristine freshwater conditions and migration pathways that are free
of major obstructions.
