Implementation plan
This project will deliver a strategic Wave Monitoring Network
around England and Wales for Flood and Coastal Managers. The
summarised programme is as follows:
Phase One (14th August 2002 to 31st March
2003)
1. Three wave-monitoring buoys will be deployed at:
- Gabbard - 28th August 2002
- Liverpool Bay - 13th November 2002
- Hastings - 26th November 2002
(Subject to weather conditions at the time)
2. The first version of a new WaveNet Website with real time
data visualisation will be available for review by Defra on 7th
November 2002.
The next version of the Website with data from Met Office buoys
and a data download capability will be available by 31st December
2002.

Cefas wavebuoys to the data centre and onwards to the
website and the MO. Data from the MO flows into the Cefas data
Centre and onto the web for stakeholders.
Phase 2 (1st April 2003 to 31st Mar 2004)
1. New buoys will be deployed in June 2003 at sites in
- Poole Bay
- Dowsing
- Bristol Channel (the HF Radar calibration buoy).
2. All Defra buoys will be updated with new satellite
communications that will allow more frequent wave measurements
updates.
3. By June 2003 the complete Network should be up and running
with ad hoc 3rd part data (Figure 2).
